να διαπλέει τον μισό κόσμο με ρυμουλκό είναι θλιβερή εικόνα πόσο μάλλον οταν στις φωτογραφίες δείχνει ετοιμοπόλεμο (και πολύ πιο όμορφο χωρις τα απαίσια tenders-παντόφλες της πλώρης). proud_ionian Posted August 15, 2005 Posted August 15, 2005 August 13: As the NORWAY (ex FRANCE) sits anchored in the haze off Pt. Klang, Malaysia, rumors have begun to rumble once again about the 44 year old ship. Apparently, her turbines are still dismantled, making her imminent use as an active, albeit slowed-down cruise or casino ship in the region unlikely. Further, contacts in the region have reported inspections by 14 Indian scrap merchants had been undertaken and that there was a possibility the ship could be towed to Goa, India in the next few weeks. maritime matters

proud_ionian Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Λετε να γλυτωσει; France's TV FR3 report that Star Cruises have cancelled the recent sale of NORWAY to Indian scrappers. The reversal came from fears of potential legal action being taken against the company for breaking an agreement to not sell the asbestos-laden ship for scrap when she was towed away from Bremerhaven last year. Various environmental groups have recently put pressure on European nations for selling toxic ships to Asian shipbreakers where standards are more relaxed. There are further reports that suggest the Malaysian Government has been investigating the sale. The NORWAY, inactive since a fatal boiler explosion in Miami killed eight crew members in 2003, remains at anchor off Port Klang, Malaysia.

February 13: BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY) languishes at her Port Klang, Malaysia anchorage as environmentalists enlist government involvement to block the ship's delivery to either Indian or Bangladeshi breakers. The ship's asbestos content is under international scrutiny and now no buyers will come to the table to scrap her until the issue is resolved.
Alang AlertSingapore-based Star Cruises confirms their sale of SS BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY) but cannot divulge the identity of the ship's new owners. Will the 1035 foot liner with one of the most exquisite hulls ever sculpted slip quietly into the hands of Asian scrappers? Word from Alang is that some heavy negotiations were underway last week to bring the ship and her much-desired aluminum superstructure to the Gujarati beach. But Bangladesh and China still remain viable candidates, the latter nation less easily fettered by all the ship's recent asbestos-related notoriety.
Further confirmation from Alang indicates the BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY) is due on the beach within a month. A consortium of breakers have reportedly bought the famed vessel, still anchored off Port Klang, Malaysia, from her Bangladeshi owner, who in turn purchased the ship from her last owner/operators, Star Cruises.
Mr.L Posted May 2, 2006 Posted May 2, 2006 According to ss maritime, she could arrive in Alang on 25/05/2006. http://www.ssmaritime.com/newsupdates.htm

Next Stop: Alang?May 6: SS BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY) finally left her Port Klang anchorage on Friday at 16:00, according to local reports. The famed ship was taken under tow, and, unless she is resold enroute, will be beached at Alang for scrapping with an estimated arrival date of 1 June.

proud_ionian Posted May 22, 2006 Posted May 22, 2006 Καλα, τα ατομα δεν ξερουν τι λενε. May 19: SS BLUE LADY (ex FRANCE, NORWAY) departed under tow from Port Klang, Malaysia to Alang, India earlier this month, but is now headed where? Greenpeace activists have succeeded in persuading the Gujarat Maritime Authority to ban the ship from Indian waters until a hearing is held on 1 July to determine if she is too toxic to be beached at the notorious Alang/Sosiya shipbreaking yards. After concerted protests, the ship was banned from the less stringent Chittagong, Bangladesh delta earlier this year. So, whither BLUE LADY? Will she accidentally beach at Alang like the controversial RIKY (ex KONG FREDERIK IX) last year, creating a maelstrom of angst that eventually fizzled out, allowing the ship to be demolished, after all? Or will she be sent back like the French aircraft carrier CLEMENCEAU, which returned to France for decontamination. Will she await a decision from the Indian authorities anchored in monsoonal waters and be taken by swells like so many recently lost scrap-bound liners? Once the most celebrated ocean liner in the world, the SS FRANCE was launched by Madame Charles de Gaulle. Her furniture, fittings, and artwork were the epitome of midcentury magnificent. Her funnels were aesthetic masterpieces, towering over her sculpted superstructure like two pairs of crimson and black angels' wings. As the NORWAY, she introduced the "mega ship" experience to legions of Caribbean cruisers. It took about a decade for the competition to catch up, but even when they did, the NORWAY still carried on with a loyal following. Now, she is the pariah of the seas, denied access to even the world's most undesirable ports.
